A two-year starting catcher, Paul Ackerman anchored the Senators’ baseball program during the late 1970s, including the 1979 WVIAC Northern Division Championship season. Known for his consistency, he posted a career .339 batting average and a .995 fielding percentage while catching for four Hall of Fame pitchers. 

Following his D&E career, Ackerman played professionally in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization from 1979-83. He later became an assistant coach at West Virginia University, helping lead the Mountaineers to four Atlantic 10 titles and an NCAA Tournament appearance. 

Over a 40-year career in baseball, Ackerman served as both a coach and manager while also dedicating 35 years to teaching in West Virginia schools. His accomplishments were recognized with induction into the National Semi-Pro Baseball Hall of Fame in 2022.
