A 1992 inductee into the Davis & Elkins College Athletics Hall of Fame, Hank Steinbrecher (1947-2025) was a standout member of the Senators' 1970 NAIA National Championship soccer team. His passion for the game propelled him into an illustrious career with U.S. Soccer, where he played a pivotal role in the sport's growth and development across the nation. Widely respected for his visionary leadership, Steinbrecher served as Secretary General of U.S. Soccer and was instrumental in securing the 1994 FIFA World Cup for the United States. A true ambassador of the game, his contributions have left a lasting legacy on American soccer.

  • Executive Director/Secretary General U.S. Soccer Federation 1990-2000
  • Member D&E soccer team which won National NAIA Soccer Championship 1970 
  • Led marketing campaign for the beverage Gatorade as sports marketing executive with The Quaker Oats Co. (1984-90) 
  • Member of D&E soccer team which won the West Virginia soccer conference Championship 1969 
  • Head coach at Boston University where he produced 14 All-Americans and 11 Tournament teams (1980-84) 
  • Coached at Western Wilson College and Appalachian State University 
  • Licensed as “A” soccer coach of the U.S. Soccer Federation 
  • Served as Executive Director for the “A” National Soccer Ranking Board of the Inter- collegiate Soccer Association of America 
  • Was soccer venue director during 1984 Olympic games when soccer attendance rose to more than 1.4 million, out-numbering other Olympic sports attendance
