PREVIEW: Season-Defining Week on Tap for D&E Women

THE OPENING TIP 
Davis & Elkins women's basketball is set to cap the regular season with its final two games on Wednesday and Saturday. The Senators will welcome West Virginia State for Senior Night on Wednesday before visiting West Virginia Wesleyan for the regular season finale on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Senators will look to snap a three-game slide in hopes of securing a spot in the Mountain East Conference (MEC) Tournament. Last in action on February 17, the Senators dropped a road matchup to then third-ranked Charleston (W.Va.) by an 86-80 count.
 
WV State knocked off West Virginia Wesleyan, 114-69, last time out will visit Elkins for its final road game of the regular season. The Bobcats will face Concord on Wednesday before ending the regular season against the Senators.

  • Jamiyah Johnson ranks ninth in the MEC in scoring average (17.9) and second in rebounding (13.8). She enters the week 19th on the all-time scoring list in program history with 1,080 career points.
  • Johnson is just six-point shy of moving into 18th place on the all-time scoring list. She is second in school history in rebounding with 918.
  • Allie Taylor has logged double figures in four of the last five games, including a career-high 22 last time out against Charleston. Taylor has started in each of the last six games, posting 30 minutes or more in each of those contests.
  • D&E boasts a +0.9 rebounding margin on the season and will face two teams with a negative rebounding margin this week.
  • Despite surrendering 86 points to one of the top teams in the nation, the Senators have been much improved on the defensive end over the last five games, allowing 72.2 points/game. That mark would rank fifth in the league compared to current numbers for other teams over the course of the season.
  • Jessica Eadsforth-Yates has hit multiple triples in four-straight outings for the Senators. She is second on the team in scoring (9.9) and first in assists (36).

SCOUTING WEST VIRGINIA STATE  
  • West Virginia State is second in the league in scoring average (93.9) and 10th in scoring defense (83.6).
  • The Yellow Jackets went 20-of-47 (42.6%) from beyond the arc in the first meeting with D&E earlier this season.
  • Alana Kramer had 18 points to lead WVSU to a 114-69 home win against West Virginia Wesleyan. The Yellow Jackets held the lead at the break and separated themselves with a 30-18 margin in the third quarter.
  • Destiny Fields paces the team in scoring average (14.6) and rebounding (7.3).
 
SCOUTING WEST VIRGINIA WESLEYAN
  • The Bobcats enter the week occupying the five-spot of the MEC standings in the South Division. The top five teams in each division will qualify for the MEC Tournament with first-round games being played on campus sites.
  • Gabauer scored 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in a 68-57 road win against Davis & Elkins on February 10. 
  • Gabauer is the team's leading scorer at 11.8 points/game and Brittany Stawovy is second with 10.3 points/game.
