ELKINS, W.Va. — The Davis & Elkins College women's basketball team honored its seniors before Saturday's game but was unable to secure a victory, falling 62-49 to the University of Charleston in a Mountain East Conference matchup at the McDonnell Center.
Seniors Alexis Smith, LaChazity Shaver, Josiany Canales, and Jackie Wright were recognized in a pregame ceremony. Wright led the way for the Senators, playing all but four minutes and finishing with 12 points, six rebounds, and four steals to cap off her Senior Day performance.
D&E (2-22, 1-17 MEC) struggled offensively in the first half, managing just 15 points before the break. The Senators trailed 31-15 at halftime as Charleston (15-11, 10-8 MEC) took control early behind a balanced scoring attack.
Kylie Morris and Canales chipped in seven points apiece, while Smith and Shaver each added five.
The Senators found their rhythm in the second half, outscoring Charleston 34-31, including an 18-point fourth quarter. However, the early deficit proved too much to overcome as Charleston held on for the win.
