PREVIEW: Women’s Basketball Back Home Wednesday to Take On Urbana

THE OPENING TIP 
With just three home games left in the regular season, Davis & Elkins women's basketball returns to the McDonnell Center for a Wednesday night matchup against Urbana at 5:30 PM. D&E had a four game winning streak snapped last time out in an 81-73 road loss to Wheeling, while the Blue Knights have lost their last two contests.

  • How It Happened: Davis & Elkins outscored Urbana by a 14-4 margin in the latter stages of the games and held a 52-34 edge on the boards in a 75-70 victory against Urbana last December. Jamiyah Johnson had a career outing against the Blue Knights, notching an astounding 31 points and 26 rebounds.
   
DAVIS & ELKINS NOTES
  • Johnson has logged 14 consecutive double-doubles and leads the nation with 17 this season. She is also first nationally in rebounding average (14.7), offensive rebounds/game (6.3) and total rebounds (294). Additionally, Johnson enters Wednesday seventh in the MEC in scoring average at 19.1 points/game.
  • Partially fueled by her effort against Urbana, Johnson won earned DII national player of the week honors from the U.S. Basketball Writers Association on December 17.
  • Sydney Nestor had a career-high 16 points and added 10 rebounds against Wheeling. She is averaging 12.3 points and 7.6 rebounds over the last three games.
  • Davis & Elkins is 15th nationally with a +9.5 rebounding margin. The Senators have outrebounded 10 opponents by 10 or more, including December 14 against Urbana.
  • Allie Taylor notched her first double digit scoring game at D&E, firing home 10 points on 3-of-4 shooting from the floor. The sophomore was a +9 for D&E against Wheeling, recording the best plus-minus rating of any Senator.
  • Peyton Mohler has scored in double digits each of the last five games and is one of five players averaging eight points/game or better.
  • With eight points last time out, Rachel Bolyard posted her highest scoring output since January 2 against Salem (W. Va.).
  
SCOUTING URBANA
  • Tyra James averages a double-double for Urbana with 24.0 points/game and 10.5 rebounds/game. She did not play last time the Blue Knights and Senators tangled from the Grimes Center last December.
  • James is fifth nationally in scoring average and ranks second with 179 made field goals. Also a double-double threat for the Blue Knights, James has 11 to her credit this season.
  • Sylvia Hudson also averages over 20 points per contest for the Blue Knights and in second in school history in rebounding.
  • Wednesday caps a difficult stretch for the Blue Knights with five of the last six games on the road. One of those road victories was a 91-70 triumph over 24th-ranked Notre Dame (Ohio) on January 25.
  • Urbana shares the ball well, leading the league with 16.7 assists/game. The Blue Knights passed out 21 helpers against D&E in the last meeting.
