BRIDGEPORT, W. Va - Two Davis & Elkins College volleyball players were named to the 2019 Mountain East All-Conference team, as announced by the conference on Wednesday. Kaitlyn LaCour was named to the First Team, while Kelly Smith was named to the Honorable Mention team at libero.
LaCour, a senior from New Orleans, Louisiana, makes her first appearance on an all-conference team, and has been featured as a centerpiece in head coach Kylie Heyne's offense this season, accumulating impressive stats that rank not only among the conference leaders, but national leaders as well. LaCour has played in every match, appearing in 98 of the 101 sets played on the season and heads into the conference tournament with team-highs in kills (402) and points (456.5). She is second on the team in both service aces (21) and digs (326) and also leads the MEC in kills/set with 4.10, a mark that ranks 20th in Division II, and points/set with 4.61, good for 19th in all of Division II. LaCour has also posted 62 blocks on the season and set season-highs with 25 kills on two occasions.
Smith, a senior from Virginia Beach, Virginia, has served as the primary libero for the 2019 season. Smith culminates a strong four-year career with her first all-conference nod. Smith eclipsed 1,500 career digs on a season in which she led the Senators in both digs (455) and service aces (38). Smith's nine ace performance against Frostburg State on November 8th broke an MEC record for aces in a four-set match, and Smith has recorded double-digit digs in the last 17 matches. She is second in school history with 1,514 career digs and second all-time with 146 aces.
D&E volleyball will travel to Wheeling on Thursday to take on West Liberty as the #4 seed in the Mountain East Conference Championships, set for a 5:00 PM start time.
