Box Score 2 CLARION, Pa. – The Davis & Elkins College volleyball team opened its 2024 season on Friday at the Clarion Invitational, suffering 3-0 losses to the University of Findlay and host Clarion University at Tippin Gymnasium. While the Senators came up short, they displayed promising flashes in their first games under new head coach Julie Danner.
Game 1
Despite the 25-14, 25-13, 25-15 defeat, several standout performances offered a glimpse of what lies ahead for the Senators. Senior Reanne Debose led the charge offensively, tallying five kills and adding five digs to keep the Senators competitive. Junior Melisa Ozsar impressed with a .333 hitting percentage, registering three kills on nine attempts without an error.
Gracjana Rozanska made her presence felt at the net, contributing four total blocks, while also adding a service ace. Clara Caralt was pivotal in distributing the ball, recording three assists and leading the team with a service ace.
Defensively, Christine Rangel added one block assist and one kill, and the Senators combined for 22 digs, showcasing their hustle and determination.
Game 2
In the second of two matches on the day, the Senators showed grit in a 3-0 loss to Clarion University, in a match that saw strong individual efforts despite the result. The Senators dropped sets 25-15, 25-11, and 25-11, but several players shined in the defeat.
Debose again led the Senators with six kills and added a service ace, while Melisa Ozsar posted an impressive .364 hitting percentage with six kills on 11 attempts. Haylie Marumoto anchored the offense with 12 assists and contributed defensively with seven digs. Maddie Edicola also chipped in with a service ace and one kill.
Defensively, Clara Caralt and Marumoto combined for 13 digs, helping to keep Davis & Elkins in several rallies as they continue to grow early in the season.
