Elkins, W.Va. – Next on our list for Senior Spotlight week is another transfer from Otero Junior College, Maria Isabel Butruce- Candiota, she graduated with a degree in Psychology. For 2022, Butruce- Candiota finished the spring and fall semesters on the Dean's Honors List. Not only does she have academic accolades, she has her name in eight of the different categories for the D&E Volleyball Records. She finished her overall college career with 596 kills, 317 digs, and earned 715 points. At D&E she had 544 kills which puts her at 9
th in total kills and 6
th in kills per set (2.48). She also sits at 10
th for total attacks (1,577), 12
th for attack percent (.155), 11
th for total points (634.5), and in 5
th for points per set (2.90). Butruce- Candiota was not only great from the front line she also pushed points from the service line for team. She sits tied at 6
th and 10
th place for aces per set and total aces. Coach Willis says, "Maria was great for our team. Though small, she packed a powerful punch and bust of energy on the floor. She continuously improved every year on her hitting percentage. With her in the top 15 of the records books in 8 total categories, it just proves how valuable she was to our team. Her energy, aggressiveness, and momentum created from the service line will be missed."
