  • How It Happened: Davis & Elkins picked up the defensive intensity and battled back from a sluggish first half to put a scare into seventh-seeded Wheeling, ultimately falling 69-60 to the Cardinals in the opening round of the 2020 Mountain East Conference Women's Basketball Tournament.

DAVIS & ELKINS NOTES
  • Jamiyah Johnson has missed the last two games for Davis & Elkins, last appearing against Alderson Broaddus on January 27. She leads the team in scoring (19.0), rebounding (15.0), field goal percentage (.583) and minutes/game (29.3).
  • Working her way into the starting lineup, Allie Taylor is fresh off a career-high 19-point outing against West Liberty. A transfer from Wheeling, Taylor has strung together a solid three-game stretch for D&E, averaging 11.6 points/game and six rebounds/game over that span.
  • Four different players have led the Senators in scoring this season and three different players have led the squad in rebounding.
  • Reagan Sharp had the breakout performance of her freshman campaign last season against Wheeling in the MEC Tournament. She logged a career-high 13 points and swiped three steals in 17 minutes in the postseason clash.
  • Slow starts have plagued D&E this season, putting the Senators in comeback mode early. Teams continue to start fast against the Senators, outscoring them 238-124 during the opening frame.
  • Marissa Berlin is second on the team in field goal percentage (.463), logging double figures in consecutive games for D&E. Berlin is pulling down seven rebounds/game and is the team's top shot blocker with nine rejections.

SCOUTING WHEELING
  • Featuring one of the premiere forwards in the nation at any level, Lilly Ritz continues her stellar junior season for Wheeling. Named the USBWA Division II Player of the Week on February 2, Ritz boasts fourth-longest double-double streak in Division II history with 23-straight dating back to last season.
  • No stranger to putting up gaudy numbers, Ritz had a season-high 31 points last time out against WVWC and has pulled down 25 and 30 rebounds in contests earlier this season.
  • Maura Castelluci (13.0 PPG) and Shanley Woods (11.6) also average double figures for Wheeling, which shoots 41.5% from the floor as a team. The Cardinals are balanced in sharing the ball with three players (Ritz, Woods, Emily Holzopfel) leading the squad with 15 assists each.
  • Mike Llanas is in his third season at Wheeling after spending 14 years at Owens Community College.
