Box Score Elkins, W.Va. -- The Davis & Elkins women's soccer team battled at home, defeating West Virginia State University by a score of 4-3.
The Senators came out flat in the first few minutes, which lead the Yellow Jackets to score their first goal within the first minute. Toward the end of the first half, the Senators then scored their first goal of the game from Sachiko Gamo. Both teams headed into the second half with one goal scored apiece. The Senators scored a second goal by Alexa Karsel. Soon after, the Yellow Jackets answered with their second goal. The Senators quickly battled back to score two goals back-to-back within the next few minutes after Yellow Jackets. Lisa Milliken scored the third and fourth goals for the Senators with both assists from Tasmin Medd-Gill.
The Senators attempted to keep their two point lead, but the Yellow Jackets put another one in toward the end of the second half. The Yellow Jackets were unable to force the tie and the Senators escaped with a 4-3 win.
Associate Coach Matlick said, "The team played with a lot of heart today. It was a great battle for us to take the win. West Virginia State is a solid team and they did not make this win an easy one on us."
