INSTITUTE, W.Va. -- The Davis & Elkins College women's soccer team put in a determined effort but fell 7-0 to West Virginia State (11-3-3, 10-2-2 MEC) on Sunday at Lakin-Ray Field at Dickerson Stadium in Institute, West Virginia.
Goalkeeper Monica Birkelund faced an intense offensive onslaught, recording five saves on 22 shots from the Yellowjackets. Birkelund made three saves in the first half, doing her best to keep the Senators within reach against a relentless attack.
On the offensive side, Frederique Morin and Lelia Rolandi led the charge for Davis & Elkins, each tallying two shots. Rolandi placed one of her attempts on goal, but the West Virginia State defense held strong.
The Senators' backline, including Madeline Veser and Victoria Sturm, worked tirelessly to contain the Yellowjackets' quick transitions and multiple scoring threats.
