ELKINS, W.Va. — Andrea Stanziola scored the game-winning goal in the 55th minute to lift the Davis & Elkins College women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over West Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday afternoon at Nuttall Field.
Stanziola's goal, her first of the season, was assisted by Alexa Karsel, who set up the opportunity with a well-placed corner kick. The Senators held their ground defensively for the remainder of the match, with goalkeeper Monica Birkelund making a key save in the 89th minute to preserve the shutout.
Davis & Elkins outshot West Virginia Wesleyan 7-4, controlling possession and creating scoring opportunities, including two shots on goal by Frederique Morin.
The win brings the Senators' season to a close with a 2-15-1 overall record, ending on a high note in front of their home crowd.
