ELKINS, W.Va. — Despite a challenging matchup, the Davis & Elkins College women's soccer team put forth a resilient defensive effort in a 5-0 loss to Concord University on Wednesday evening at Nuttall Field. Goalkeepers Deimante Antoine and Monica Birkelund combined for six saves, working hard to try and limit the Mountain Lions' attack.
Antoine started strong in goal, logging four saves in the first half, while Birkelund stepped in during the second half, adding two saves of her own. Senior defender Madeline Veser and junior midfielder Catalina Salas played pivotal roles, working tirelessly to contain Concord's offense throughout the game.
Concord opened the scoring in the 15th minute, followed by a goal in the 31st. The Mountain Lions extended the lead with three goals in the second half, scoring in the 50th, 53rd, and 68th minute.
Midfielder Lelia Rolandi added intensity in the final minutes, demonstrating the Senators' persistence as she played a physical game, picking up a yellow card in the 82nd minute.
