Johnson Earns First Team All-MEC Accolades

BRIDGEPORT, W. Va. – Davis & Elkins junior forward Jamiyah Johnson was named a First Team All-Mountain East Conference selection following an impressive regular season with the Senators, the league announced Monday afternoon.

Urbana's Tyra James was selected as the MEC Player of the Year, Dakota Reeves (Charleston) earned Freshman of the Year honors and Lauren Macer (Notre Dame College) was tabbed the league's Coach of the Year.

Johnson has been among the most productive players in the nation this season, setting a new MEC record with 25 double-doubles in the regular season finale against West Virginia Wesleyan. Johnson has recorded a double-double in 23 straight matchups, just one shy of tying the all-time NCAA DII women's basketball mark of 24, set by Vanessa Wilt (Cal State San Bernadino) in 2007-08.

The Williamsburg, Va. native is second in the country in rebounding (15.4) and leads the country in offensive rebounds per game (6.4). Johnson has recorded 531 points this season, the fourth most in school history, while also setting a single season record with 432 boards.

Averaging 19.0 points per game, Johnson has posted 20 or more points 12 times this season. She tied a school record for rebounds in a game with 26 against Urbana on December 14, adding 31 points in a stellar effort.

Johnson ranks fourth all-time in D&E history with 764 rebounds, just seven shy of tying Peggy Hughes (1981-85) for third. She is shooting 54.6% from the floor this season and averaging 30.6 minutes per game.

Johnson earned MEC Player of the Week honors on December 16 and later earned U.S. Basketball Writers Association Women's Division II National Player of the Week honors the next day after averaging 27.0 points and 21.5 rebounds per game in two games against Notre Dame (Ohio) and Urbana.

Davis & Elkins earned a spot in the MEC Tournament as the 10 seed in the team's first year in the league. The Senators will begin the postseason on Wednesday, March 4 at noon against Wheeling from WesBanco Arena.

The All-MEC teams are selected by a vote of the league's coaches.
