PREVIEW: Women’s Basketball Visits the Hilltop for Midweek Matchup with West Liberty

THE OPENING TIP
Following a home stand that found the Senators win three in a row, D&E looks to set their longest win streak since the 2018 season, heading up to West Liberty for a midweek matchup against the Hilltoppers. The game will have significant implications in the MEC standings, as the Senators (9th) and Hilltoppers (10th) currently hold the final two spots in next month's conference championship.

SERIES HISTORY
  • All-Time Series: Series tied 3-3 (since 2011)
  • Last Meeting: December 7, 2019 – West Liberty 86, Davis & Elkins 78 | Recap | Box Score
  • How It Happened: A first-half deficit proved too much for the Senators, despite Jamiyah Johnson's 31-point, 15 rebound performance.

DAVIS & ELKINS NOTES
  • Johnson's dominant season continues, as the junior is tied for the Division II lead, averaging 14.3 rebounds/game and holding the top spot with 6.3 offensive rebounds/game.
  • Peyton Mohler has finished with 11 points in each of the past three games. She scored 15 against West Liberty in 38 minutes during the first meeting.
  • Beyond Johnson, D&E has four players averaging between 8.6 and 9.8 points/game offensively.
  • The current three-game win streak is the longest for the Senators since a five day stretch from Feb. 11-16, 2019 that found the Senators win three in a row.
  • Over the last three games, D&E has limited its opponents to just 56.6 points/game. That would rank first in the league in scoring defense relative to team's numbers for the entire season.
  • D&E leads the MEC with a +9.4 rebounding margin, ranking top two as a team in both offensive (2nd) and defensive (1st) rebounding.

SCOUTING WEST LIBERTY
  • Senior Morgan Brunner leads the Hilltoppers in scoring, averaging 20.8 PPG, a mark that sits third in the MEC.
  • Taylor Johnson, who scored a team-high 20 points against D&E earlier in the season, is the Hilltoppers second leading scorer (17.9 PPG).
  • Audrey Tingle (8.3 rebounds /game) will battle Johnson on the boards.
  • Nine of the 13 players on the roster headed to West Liberty from neighboring Ohio.
