Box Score SALEM, W.Va. - The Davis and Elkins College Women's Basketball team picked up an 85-79 win on the road against Salem University this afternoon in a non-conference contest.
Even though Salem jumped in front on the scoreboard, the Senators didn't let them increase the advantage and turned the game in their favor halfway through the first quarter. D&E went on to finish the first period off strong with a 17-11 lead.
After the quick break, the Tigers tried to kept up with the Senators and tied the game. Salem made it 35-35 with two minutes left in the period but D&E took a 41-35 into halftime.
The Senators came back even stronger in the second half. They increased the advantage as
Nicole Armstrong scored a good sequence of ten points. The senior had a couple of layups and jumpers that helped D&E take a 66-51 advantage into the last period of the game.
The fourth quarter saw a hard-fought rally by Salem, but the Senators were able to hold off the charge and escape with the victory.
Colleena Burdock led the Senators with 19 points and five assists. The sophomore also had an important five rebounds in the game.
Kali Wilburn scored 17 points for the Senators and collected four rebounds. Wilburn also had two assists.
Armstrong finished the game adding 13 points to the count while
Jamiyah Johnson had a team-high six rebounds.
The Senators were 75 percent from the free-throw line and shot 48.3 percent in the game.
The Davis and Elkins College Women's Basketball team will come back to action this Thursday against Ohio Valley University for a G-MAC match-up. The game is set for 7:30 PM at the McDonnell Center.
