PREVIEW: Women’s Basketball Visits Urbana on Saturday Afternoon

THE OPENING TIP 
Davis & Elkins hits the road on Saturday to play its second game in three days, taking on Urbana from the Warren G. Grimes Center at 2:00 PM. Saturday marks the final conference contest of 2019 as the Senators will head into the holiday break before returning to action in early January.

AROUND THE LEAGUE  
DAVIS & ELKINS NOTES 
  • D&E whittled a big Notre Dame (Ohio) lead down to seven points in the fourth quarter last time out, but the Falcons held on for the road win to remain atop the MEC standings.
  • Jamiyah Johnson remains second in the conference in rebounding and notched her fourth consecutive double-double with 24 points and 17 rebounds. She is third in the nation with six double-doubles to her credit this season.
  • Johnson has pulled in 15 or more rebounds each of the last four games. The junior forward is eighth nationally in offensive rebounds/game (4.8).
  • Jay Kilpatrick, the team's lone senior is expected to make her 50th career start on Saturday.
  • Sydney Nestor provided another solid scoring threat, also posting a double-double with 13 points and a career-best 12 boards (eight offensive).
  • The Senators will aim for better production from beyond the arc on Saturday after making just four three-pointers over the last two games.
  • Saturday is the first road contest for the Senators since the conference opener on November 23 at Fairmont State.
  • Peyton Mohler has strung together two solid outings on both ends of the floor for Davis & Elkins. She followed up a career-high 15 points against West Liberty with an eight-point performance to go along with three rebounds and a block.
 
SCOUTING URBANA
  • Urbana rebounded from consecutive losses with a narrow 82-80 road win against West Virginia Wesleyan last time out. Sylvia Hudson beat the final buzzer with a putback attempt to help the Blue Knights escape with the win.
  • Tyra James paces the Blue Knights at 22.2 points/game, converting nearly 49% from the floor this season. She also averages 9.6 rebounds/game to lead the squad.
  • Andrea McCloskey was named the head coach of the Blue Knights prior to the 2017-18 season after coaching at Georgetown College from 2011-17.
  • The Blue Knights share the bell well, ranking 15th in NCAA DII in assists (161). On the other side of the floor, Urbana is 38th in the country with 99.
