PREVIEW: Women's Basketball Opens Conference Play on Saturday at Fairmont State

OPENING TIP 
The Senators head to Fairmont State for their inaugural MEC match-up, taking on the Falcons on Saturday.  D&E looks to pick up their first win of the season, closing out a stretch of four out of five games away from home. In last year's non-conference match-up, the Falcons rode 20 points by Sierra Kotchman to a 69-58 victory.

DAVIS & ELKINS NOTES  
  • In Wednesday's loss at Clarion, Jamiyah Johnson shined with 20 points and 16 rebounds. Johnson leads the team in scoring on the season, averaging 18 points per game. 
  • Jessica Eadsforth-Yates set a season best with 14 points against Clarion, and leads the team in assists. 
  • Peyton Mohler has seen significant playing time in her young career thus far, averaging 26 minutes per game off the bench. 
  • Davis & Elkins will host Fairmont State for the first time since 2012 on Wednesday, January 22nd.

SCOUTING FAIRMONT STATE 
  • Sierra Kotchman is off to a hot start on the season, leading the Falcons in scoring with 23.4 PPG, while also leading the team with 31 rebounds. 
  • Three other Falcons are averaging double figures on the young season, as Kamrin Weimer (13.2), Rachel Laskody and Brooke Kurucz (10.8 ppg each) have been efficient scorers thus far. 
  • Fairmont State is coming off a 77-66 victory over local foe Alderson Broaddus on November 20th. 
  • Head Coach Stephanie Anderson is navigating her way through her first year as head coach, following five years on the Falcon sideline as an assistant. 
  • Fairmont State was picked to finish 6th in the MEC Preseason Poll, falling in the first round of last year's conference tournament.
