PREVIEW: Women’s Basketball Visits Clarion for Midweek Matchup

OPENING TIP
The Senators are away from home for the third time in the last four games, traveling to Clarion for a rare 11:00 AM matchup during the week. One team will pick up its first victory of the season as each enter the nonconference clash with 0-3 marks. Wednesday will be the fourth consecutive matchup with a team from the PSAC for Davis & Elkins, which steps into conference play later this week.

AROUND THE LEAGUE  
DAVIS & ELKINS NOTES
  • Davis & Elkins and Clarion last met in 2007, a 76-58 loss the Golden Eagles to open the season. Courtney Pawlack paced D&E with 20 points and eight rebounds in the season opener, while Allison Bruce added 13 points and six rebounds.
  • Jamiyah Johnson battled through foul trouble last time out, but still posted a career-high 22 points in 22 minutes with eight boards against Shepherd. In total, five players scored in double figures in a 94-84 loss to Shepherd on November 16.
  • Jay Kilpatrick has made five field goal attempts in each of the last two games, averaging 19 points/game over that span.
  • Jessica Eadsforth-Yates has increased her scoring total in each of the past three games, posting 12 points last time out against Shepherd, including an impressive heave from beyond midcourt to beat the first half buzzer. She also leads the team with 10 assists through the first three games.
  • Peyton Mohler has logged 30 or more minutes in each of the past two games, notching her first career double figure effort against Shepherd with 13 points.
  • Courtney Roth logged 25 minutes for D&E last time out, recording six points on 2-of-3 shooting. She was the only player with a plus rating (+2) of the 11 Senators that played against the Rams.
  • D&E went 5-of-9 (56%) on three-point shots from the left wing against Shepherd, going 3-of-8 (37.5%) from all other parts of the court.

SCOUTING CLARION
  • Clarion battled back from a 24-point deficit last time out before ultimately dropping a matchup against West Liberty, 84-76.
  • Emily Hegedus dropped in 22 points in 37 minutes to lead the Golden Eagles against the Hilltoppers, while Jada Smith (13), Ke'Airah Massiah (12) and Yndiah Bobo (10) each posted double figures in the loss.
  • Wednesday begins a stretch of four consecutive home games for Clarion to end the month.
  • Jana Ashley, a former player at North Alabama, is in her sixth season as the head coach of the Clarion women's program.
  • Smith enters the contest 19th in the nation in defensive rebounds per game (8.0).
  • The Golden Eagles recently re-opened its renovated Tippin Gymnasium earlier this month.
