BRIDGEPORT, W. Va. – Seniors
Samantha Cozzolino and
Asheli Freed earned postseason awards from the Mountain East Conference (MEC), as the league announced its all-conference teams for the 2019 season on Tuesday morning.
Cozzolino landed on the second team while Freed was an honorable mention selection. The senior duo helped Davis & Elkins to seven wins under first year head coach
Declan McGill, finishing the year in fourth place in the South Division.
Cozzolino made 16 starts this season, collecting a pair of goals and an assist from her defensive position. She helped the Senators to six shutouts this season and scored her first career goal on a header against Frostburg State (10/5/19). She won the league's Defensive Player of the Week award on October 7.
Freed led the squad with five goals, two game-winners, five assists, 15 points and 26 shots on goal. She started in 16 games and began the season with goals in three consecutive games. The Enon Valley, Pa. native also recorded multiple shots in nine contests this season.
Davis & Elkins just missed out on the conference tournament with a 7-8-2 record and a 6-7-1 mark in league play.
