Box Score 2 ELKINS, W.Va. — Davis & Elkins baseball dropped both games of a doubleheader to Glenville State on Saturday at Harpertown Field, falling 11-0 in game one before coming up short, 9-6, in game two.
Game One: Glenville State 11, Davis & Elkins 0
Glenville State used a pair of big innings to take control early and never looked back in an 11-0 shutout victory in the opener.
After a scoreless first, Glenville State broke through in the second inning as Zach Laurie delivered an RBI triple and later scored on a balk to make it 2-0. The Pioneers added four more runs in the third, highlighted by a three-run double from Greyson McNeill that pushed the lead to 6-0.
The visitors put the game out of reach in the fifth inning, plating five runs on a combination of timely hitting and defensive miscues to extend the advantage to 11-0.
Davis & Elkins was limited to just three hits in the contest, with Nate Silvus, Carsan Strolla and Jett Walters accounting for the Senators' offense.
Collin Schneider took the loss on the mound, allowing nine runs (seven earned) over four innings. Carson Gorby and Andy Bailer provided relief, with Bailer striking out three in a scoreless inning.
Game Two: Glenville State 9, Davis & Elkins 6
The Senators showed fight in game two, jumping out to an early lead, but Glenville State rallied late to complete the sweep with a 9-6 win.
Davis & Elkins struck first with a three-run opening inning, taking advantage of wild pitches and an error before Aiden Morey added a sacrifice fly. The Senators added two more runs in the second and another in the third to build a 6-3 lead.
Dylan Leadbetter delivered a key RBI single in the third, while also driving in a run earlier in the game. Kenny Capria led the offense with two hits, and the Senators capitalized on four Glenville State errors to generate early momentum.
Glenville State began to chip away in the middle innings, tying the game at 6-6 in the sixth before taking the lead for good with two runs in the inning. The Pioneers added insurance in the seventh to seal the 9-6 victory.
Diego Reyes started on the mound for Davis & Elkins, allowing five runs (three earned) over five innings. Bryce Hines was charged with the loss, while Nate Silvus and Kyle Ball combined for relief work.
Davis & Elkins returns to action Wednesday, April 22, traveling to face Wheeling University at Wild Things Stadium in Washington, Pennsylvania.
