Box Score 2 OWENSBORO, Ky. — The Davis & Elkins College volleyball team competed in two matches Saturday at the Kentucky Wesleyan Invitational, facing Arkansas-Fort Smith and McKendree at Jones Gymnasium.
Arkansas-Fort Smith 3, Davis & Elkins 0
Davis & Elkins opened the day against Arkansas-Fort Smith, falling to the Lions, 25-21, 25-13, 25-5.
The Senators finished the match with 19 kills, led by Kaylee Vanjo with six and Aliceya Ciftcioglu with five. Braelyn Brenneman added two kills and recorded a team-high two blocks.
Liene Dujin paced the D&E offense with 10 assists, while Jill Van Der Velde added five assists. Neve Norris recorded two service aces, while Vanjo and Taylor Demankowski each added one.
Norris led the Senators defensively with nine digs, followed by Demankowski with eight and Dujin with six.
Arkansas-Fort Smith finished with 38 kills and hit .309 as a team. Lydia Pitts led the Lions with 12 kills, while Mayli Whetter recorded 22 assists.
McKendree 3, Davis & Elkins 1
Davis & Elkins returned to the court Saturday evening and earned the opening-set victory against McKendree before the Bearcats rallied for a 3-1 win, 21-25, 25-9, 25-11, 25-19.
The Senators claimed the first set behind a balanced offensive attack before McKendree responded by winning the next three sets.
Ciftcioglu led D&E with 13 kills, while Madison McGarry added seven and Vanjo finished with three. Ciftcioglu also recorded two service aces.
Dujin posted 21 assists and added 14 digs, while Norris contributed 11 digs and three assists. Demankowski led the Senators with 14 digs.
Norris recorded a team-high four service aces. Brenneman led D&E at the net with two blocks, while Alexandra Mattey and Dujin each added one.
McKendree was led offensively by Madelyn Clarke with 15 kills, while Brooke Heimburger added 12. Peyton Uptgraft recorded 26 assists for the Bearcats.

Davis & Elkins returns to action Friday, Sept. 11, at the Concord Classic in Athens, West Virginia. The Senators will face Bluefield State University at 11 a.m.
