FROSTBURG, Md. — The Davis & Elkins College women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Frostburg State on Wednesday at Bobcat Stadium in its Mountain East Conference opener.

The Senators, who fall to 1-1-1 overall and 0-1 in MEC play, battled back after Frostburg State opened the scoring in the ninth minute. Cassidy Paige put the Bobcats ahead 1-0 at the 8:28 mark.

D&E answered less than two minutes later when Anne-Sofie Kaiser found the back of the net in the 11th minute. Sophia Brown provided the assist on Kaiser's first goal of the season, leveling the match at 1-1.

The score remained tied through halftime before Frostburg State regained the lead early in the second half. Mollie Rebuck scored in the 50th minute off assists from Madison Hobson and Madison Hinton to give the Bobcats a 2-1 advantage.

The Senators continued to battle for the equalizer but were unable to find the back of the net in the final 40 minutes.

Luisa Camara made six saves in 82:45 of action for D&E, while Gabriela Acevedo finished the match in goal and recorded one save. Camara made several key stops late in the match, including saves in the 81st and 82nd minutes to keep the Senators within striking distance.

D&E finished the match with six shots, including three on goal, while Frostburg State recorded 16 shots and nine shots on target. The Senators also held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Davis & Elkins returns home Wednesday, Sept. 9, to host Fairmont State at Nuttall Field in Elkins, West Virginia. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
