Davis & Elkins Baseball Adds Ismael Brenes to Coaching Staff

ELKINS, W.Va. — Davis & Elkins College head baseball coach Justin Salge has announced the hiring of Ismael Brenes as an assistant coach for the Senators.

Brenes brings coaching experience, a background in player development and a collegiate playing career to the Davis & Elkins baseball program.

Brenes most recently served as the head varsity baseball coach at Christian Life Preparatory School in Fort Worth, Texas, where he began coaching in January 2025. During his tenure, he guided the program to back-to-back playoff appearances. In his first season, Christian Life Preparatory won the bi-district round before falling 2-1 to Denton Calvary, a state finalist, in the area round.

Before joining Christian Life Preparatory, Brenes worked as a baseball instructor and assistant general manager at Toca Dbat in Dallas from 2023-25. He also served as a baseball instructor at the facility from September 2022 through January 2023, developing individualized training programs, leading clinics and evaluating player performance.

Brenes began his collegiate playing career at Mountain View College, where he competed from 2016-18. He earned a 4.0 GPA and was named to the MAC First Team All-Academic team. He also earned first-team All-City honors at second base while attending El Dorado High School in El Paso, Texas, in 2016.

He continued his playing career at the University of the Southwest in Hobbs, New Mexico, from 2019-21. During his first season, the Mustangs recorded their first 30-win season since 2004. In 2021, Brenes helped the program earn a victory over second-seeded LSU-Shreveport in the opening round of the Red River Athletic Conference tournament, marking the program's first tournament win since 2004. That season, the Mustangs also recorded a .963 fielding percentage, the 21st-best mark nationally and the highest in program history.

Brenes finished his collegiate career with a .246 batting average and a .977 fielding percentage. He earned a bachelor's degree in kinesiology and exercise science in 2020 and a master's degree in health and human performance in 2021 from the University of the Southwest.

In addition to his baseball responsibilities, Brenes served as a junior varsity basketball head coach at Christian Life Preparatory, leading the team to an undefeated season in TAPPS district play.

Brenes joins Salge's staff as the Senators continue to build their baseball program.
