ELKINS, W.Va. — Davis & Elkins men's tennis earned a 5-2 road victory over Frostburg State on Wednesday afternoon in MEC action, improving to 8-3 overall and 3-1 in conference play.
The Senators secured the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. The duo of Justus Petersilie and Philipp Fedorczuk picked up a 6-3 victory at the top spot, while Christo Wirahadipoernomo and Tom Strohschein cruised to a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles. Frostburg State claimed the No. 3 doubles match, 7-5.
In singles play, Davis & Elkins won four of six matches to seal the team victory.
Filippo Buffo dominated at No. 5 singles with a 6-1, 6-1 win, while Santiago Ordonez added a straight-sets victory at No. 6, 6-2, 6-4. Strohschein earned a hard-fought win at No. 4 singles, taking the match in a tiebreak, 7-6, 6-3. Wirahadipoernomo also battled through a tight contest at No. 3, coming away with the win after a competitive opening set.
Frostburg State picked up wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles.
Davis & Elkins returns to action Friday, April 3, traveling to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to face Chestnut Hill College at 3 p.m.
