Box Score 2 ELKINS, W.Va. — Davis & Elkins baseball dropped both games of a nonconference doubleheader to WV Tech on Tuesday at Harpertown Field, falling 9-3 in game one before coming up just short in an 8-7 loss in game two.
Game One: WV Tech 9, Davis & Elkins 3
WV Tech used steady run production and capitalized on defensive miscues to take the opener 9-3.
The Golden Bears struck early with two runs in the first inning and added insurance runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth before breaking the game open with a three-run seventh.
Davis & Elkins answered in the bottom of the first when Carsan Strolla singled home Kenny Capria, and the Senators added single runs in the fifth and sixth. Strolla led the offense with a 3-for-3 performance and two RBIs, while Zach Calef-Boring also collected three hits.
Despite out-hitting WV Tech 11-10, the Senators were hindered by three errors that led to multiple unearned runs.
Kyle Ball took the loss on the mound, allowing three earned runs over four innings of work.
Game Two: WV Tech 8, Davis & Elkins 7
Davis & Elkins rallied throughout but could not complete the comeback in an 8-7 setback in the nightcap.
The Senators jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning behind RBI hits from Joel Wise, Mason Brenneman and Jesus DeJesus. WV Tech responded with a five-run second inning to take control, then added another run in the third to extend the lead to 6-3.
D&E battled back in the third with three runs, taking advantage of defensive errors, before Jett Walters gave the Senators a 7-6 lead with a solo home run in the fourth.
WV Tech tied the game in the sixth and pushed across the go-ahead run in the seventh to secure the sweep.
Walters paced the Senators with two hits, including the home run, while DeJesus added a pair of hits and an RBI. Capria reached base three times and drove in a run.
Collin Schneider was charged with the loss after allowing the go-ahead run in the seventh inning.
Davis & Elkins returns to action Saturday, April 18, hosting Glenville State for a Mountain East Conference doubleheader at Harpertown Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m., with game two set for 3:30 p.m.
