ELKINS, W.Va. — The Davis & Elkins College women's soccer team fell 2-1 to Fairmont State Wednesday night in its home opener at Nuttall Field.

The Senators took a 1-0 lead in the 38th minute when Rafaela Leão converted a penalty kick to put D&E ahead heading into halftime.

Fairmont State answered early in the second half, tying the match in the 51st minute on a goal from Sam Yuen. The Fighting Falcons then took the lead in the 67th minute when Dayra Dinarte found the back of the net.

D&E finished with 11 shots, including six on goal, while Fairmont State recorded 11 shots with six on target. Gabriela Acevedo made four saves in goal for the Senators.

The Senators move to 1-2-1 overall and 0-2 in Mountain East Conference play. Fairmont State improves to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play.

D&E returns to action Saturday, Sept. 12, traveling to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to face Point Park University. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m.
