Box Score 2 CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The Davis & Elkins baseball team dropped both ends of a Mountain East Conference doubleheader at Charleston on Sunday, falling 10-0 in game one and 7-6 in game two.
Game One: Charleston 10, Davis & Elkins 0
Charleston broke open a close contest with a nine-run sixth inning to take game one, 10-0.
Davis & Elkins was limited to three hits on the afternoon, coming from Kenny Capria, Zach Calef-Boring and Nick Colarossi. The Senators were unable to generate offense, striking out seven times and drawing one walk.
Charleston scored its first run in the opening inning on an RBI single from Trent Dosenbach, then held a 1-0 lead until the sixth, when the Golden Eagles sent 13 batters to the plate and plated nine runs to pull away.
Ryan Comella delivered a two-run double during the rally, while Zachary Syvertson added a two-run single. Charleston also capitalized on a hit-by-pitch, a walk and a defensive error during the inning.
Landon Ingram earned the win for Charleston, tossing six shutout innings while allowing three hits and striking out six. Cooper Blackburn took the loss for Davis & Elkins.
Game Two: Charleston 7, Davis & Elkins 6
Davis & Elkins responded in game two with a strong early surge but could not hold off a late Charleston rally, as the Golden Eagles completed the sweep with a 7-6 win.
The Senators jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning, highlighted by a two-run single from Aiden Morey and a two-run single from Connor Hyde. Davis & Elkins added another run in the fourth to take a 6-5 advantage heading into the middle innings.
Charleston answered with steady scoring, tying the game in the third and regaining the lead for good in the sixth inning on a bases-loaded walk.
Morey finished with two RBIs, while Hyde also drove in two runs. Carsan Strolla added an RBI for the Senators.
Joel Wise took the loss after allowing the go-ahead run in relief. Charleston's Grant Barclay earned the win, and Kai Close picked up the save.
Charleston used seven hits and drew six walks in the contest, while Davis & Elkins finished with four hits and six runs scored.
