Box Score PITTSBURGH, Pa. — Davis & Elkins used a fast start and a strong closing push to secure a key Mountain East Conference victory Saturday, defeating Point Park 14-11 at Highmark Stadium.
With the win, the Senators (10-5, 4-4 MEC) sit in fourth place in the Mountain East Conference standings, just ahead of Point Park and just behind Wheeling.
Davis & Elkins opened the game with six first-quarter goals, highlighted by two scores each from Rylee Anderson and Savannah Quave, to take a 6-3 lead after one. Anderson's early dominance set the tone, finishing with four goals and two assists on the day.
Quave added a third goal in the second quarter to extend the lead to 7-3, but Point Park (5-9, 2-5 MEC) responded with a 5-1 run spanning the second and third quarters to even the score at 8-8 midway through the third.
The Senators answered with back-to-back goals from Ke'ya Stevens and Talia Berardo to regain a 10-8 advantage, but Point Park again fought back, tying the game at 10-10 late in the third quarter.
In the fourth, Davis & Elkins took control for good. Emelia Johnson gave the Senators the lead at 11-10 with 12:24 remaining, and Izzie Sevila followed with another goal to create separation. Mackenzie Mullan added a man-up goal, and Berardo capped the scoring with her second of the game in the final minutes to seal the 14-11 win.
Anderson led all players with six points (four goals, two assists), while Quave added three goals. Berardo finished with two goals and one assist, Sevila contributed a goal and two assists, Isla Avant added a goal, and Mackey added an assist in the balanced attack.
Defensively, Mackenzie Mullan anchored the Senators with seven ground balls and four caused turnovers, while goalkeeper Megan Bauer recorded 12 saves.
Zoe Mackey finished with five draw controls and two caused turnovers while also adding an assist to help fuel the midfield effort.
Davis & Elkins held a slight edge in shots (31-30) and ground balls (26-24), while converting four free-position opportunities.
The Senators return to action Saturday, April 18, when they host the University of Charleston at 2 p.m. at Nuttall Field for their Code Red game.
