LEXINGTON, N.C. — The Davis & Elkins men's golf team placed third at the Sapona Intercollegiate, held March 6–7 at Sapona Country Club.
The Senators finished the three-round event at 29-over par (8-10-11—29) on the par-71, 6,620-yard course, finishing behind team champion Missouri S&T (-1) and runner-up Montana State Billings (+22) in the NCAA Division II tournament.
Lucio Pavicich led Davis & Elkins with an 11th-place individual finish, posting a 5-over-par total for the tournament. Pavicich opened the event with a 70 in the first round and followed with rounds of 74 and 74 to pace the Senators.
Isaac Gregson, Luke Grilliot and Wouter Vondeling each tied for 16th place overall at 11-over par to give Davis & Elkins three golfers inside the top 20. Gregson posted rounds of 79, 73 and 72, while Grilliot recorded scores of 74, 73 and 77. Vondeling finished with rounds of 75, 77 and 72.
Samuel Rached rounded out the scoring lineup for the Senators, tying for 21st at 14-over par after carding rounds of 73, 74 and 80.
Leonardo Turra also tied for 21st place competing as an individual with rounds of 77, 78 and 72. Dillon Dunz and Thomas Davies also competed individually for Davis & Elkins.
Missouri S&T captured the team title at 1-under par, while Montana State Billings finished second at 22-over. Cedarville's "A" team placed fourth at 31-over, while Cedarville "B" and UMass Amherst tied for fifth.
