Box Score MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — The Davis & Elkins College women's lacrosse team remained unbeaten Tuesday afternoon, defeating St. Thomas (Fla.) 16-8 in a nonconference matchup.
The Senators improved to 4-0 on the season after building a commanding first-quarter lead and maintaining control throughout the contest.
Davis & Elkins opened the game with a dominant offensive burst, scoring seven goals in the opening quarter. Rylee Anderson sparked the early surge, scoring four of her six goals in the first period to help the Senators take a 7-2 lead after the opening 15 minutes.
Savannah Quave, Morgan Rogers and Ke'ya Stevens also found the net during the opening run as Davis & Elkins quickly seized momentum.
After a scoreless second quarter for the Senators, St. Thomas trimmed the deficit to 7-3 at halftime.
Davis & Elkins regained control in the third quarter, scoring three times behind goals from Stevens, Talia Berardo and Darby Thomson to extend the lead to 10-5 entering the final period.
The Senators pulled away in the fourth quarter with six more goals, including two from Malia Galan and another from Anderson. Alexia Gonzales capped the scoring late to secure the eight-goal victory.
Anderson led Davis & Elkins with six goals on seven shots. Berardo finished with two goals and three assists, while Galan and Stevens each added two goals. Quave, Rogers, Thomson and Gonzales also scored for the Senators.
Defensively, Mackenzie Mullan recorded three caused turnovers, while Zoe Mackey controlled the draw with a game-high seven draw controls.
In goal, Megan Bauer played all 60 minutes and recorded nine saves to earn the win.
Davis & Elkins finished with advantages in shots (29-21), ground balls (42-28) and draw controls (20-6).
St. Thomas was led by Kylie Lubrant with three goals, while Jenna Lytch added two goals and two assists.
Davis & Elkins returns to action Thursday when it travels to Ave Maria University for a 2:00 p.m. contest.
