Evans Named All-MEC Second Team, Gray Earns Honorable Mention

ELKINS, W.Va. — Davis & Elkins College men's basketball standouts Vegas Evans and Matthew Gray earned postseason recognition from the Mountain East Conference, with Evans named All-MEC Second Team and Gray receiving All-MEC Honorable Mention for the 2025–26 season.

Evans turned in one of the most consistent seasons in the conference, leading the Senators with 16.1 points per game while shooting an efficient .545 from the field. The forward also averaged 7.8 rebounds per contest and finished the year with 452 total points across 28 games. Evans recorded multiple standout performances during the season, including a 28-point effort against West Liberty and a 27-point, 11-rebound double-double in the season opener against Lock Haven. He also posted a season-high 15 rebounds against West Virginia State while contributing defensively with 24 blocks and 30 steals.

Gray provided another major scoring presence for Davis & Elkins, leading the team with 499 total points and averaging 16.6 points per game. The guard connected on 50 three-pointers during the season while shooting .429 from the field and .728 from the free throw line. Gray recorded several high-scoring performances throughout the year, including a 32-point outing against Salem and a 30-point performance at West Virginia State. In addition to his scoring, Gray contributed 51 assists, 29 steals and 131 rebounds across 30 games.

Across the Mountain East Conference, Frostburg State's Trey Simmons was named the MEC Player of the Year after leading the league in scoring at 23.9 points per game. Concord's Boubacar Djigo earned Defensive Player of the Year honors, Wheeling's Ayden Goll was named Freshman of the Year and Wheeling head coach Chris Richardson was selected as MEC Coach of the Year.
