ELKINS, W.Va. – In their first home match since 2022 on newly renovated courts, the Davis & Elkins College women's tennis team put up a strong fight but came up just short, falling 4-3 to Frostburg State in Mountain East Conference action Saturday morning.
The visiting Bobcats took early control by securing the doubles point with a pair of 6-3 wins at No. 1 and No. 2. Liebe Oosthuizen and Karen Saucedo fell to Frostburg's top pair, while Erin Laubscher and Eloise Hutton were edged on the second court. D&E picked up a win by forfeit at No. 3 doubles but trailed 1-0 heading into singles.
The Senators bounced back in singles with wins at the No. 3, No. 5, and No. 6 positions. Oosthuizen turned the tide at No. 3, storming back for a 2-6, 6-0, 6-1 victory over Elayna Troxell. Lilly Wentzler outlasted Fiona Hofkamp in a thrilling three-setter at No. 5, winning 6-2, 2-6, 7-6 (4), and Karen Saucedo earned a point by forfeit at No. 6.
However, Frostburg State held firm at the top of the lineup, taking straight-set wins at No. 1, No. 2, and No. 4 singles. Kush, Castejon, and Pintar each delivered dominant performances to seal the match for the Bobcats. Kush defeated Fabienne Lahn 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1, Castejon beat Laubscher 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2, and Pintar cruised past Hutton 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4.
Despite the narrow loss, the day marked a milestone for D&E, as the program hosted its first home match in nearly three years on its freshly renovated courts.
