WHEELING, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins wrestling team dropped its dual against Wheeling University, 40-16, on Friday night at the Alma Grace McDonough Center – Performance Gym.
The Senators picked up three victories on the night, including a pair of dominant technical falls from Bradden Galassi at 174 pounds and Garrett Eddy at 197 pounds. Galassi controlled his match against Hunter Bittinger, securing an 18-0 tech fall in 4:11. Eddy followed with a commanding 15-0 tech fall over Chris Johnson in just 2:20.
Luke Shaffer added six team points for D&E at 133 pounds, winning by forfeit.
Wheeling (1-0) took advantage of multiple forfeits and earned key bonus-point victories throughout the match. The Cardinals secured wins by fall at 141 and 157 pounds, with Angel DiPol (141) pinning Nicholas Ammirati in 6:13 and Isaac Valdez (157) finishing Gabriel Pujadas in 2:56. Brent Bosley (125) and Austin Hinzman (184) each notched technical falls for Wheeling, while the Cardinals also claimed three forfeit wins.
The Senators will look to bounce back in their next meet as they continue in-conference competition, visiting Fairmont State on February 14.
