HAMPTON, Va. — The Davis & Elkins College men's wrestling team competed in a challenging multi-round meet over the weekend at the Peninsula Wrestling Association Virginia Duals, falling to Reinhardt, Coker University, and St. Vincent in a series of matchups over the two-day competition.
Match 1: Reinhardt 44, Davis & Elkins 9
The Senators opened the day against a dominant Reinhardt squad, falling 44-9 in the Championship Round 1. Highlights for Davis & Elkins included a pin by Luke Shaffer at 133 pounds, defeating Eaiden Neal in just 2:38, and a hard-fought decision win by Richard Davis at 141 pounds, 10-6 over Tyler Garrett.
Match 2: Coker 28, Davis & Elkins 17
In the Consolation Round 1, D&E mounted a stronger effort but ultimately fell 28-17 to Coker University. Richard Davis secured a 12-9 decision at 141 pounds. Bradden Galassi added a major decision win at 174 pounds, 15-3 over Anderson Hall, Gavin Rodriguez-Cayro won by forfeit at 184 pounds, and Garrett Eddy capped the match with a 9-1 major decision victory at heavyweight.
Match 3: Bye in Consolation Round 2
The Senators received a bye in Consolation Round 2, advancing to the 13th-place match.
Match 4: St. Vincent 41, Davis & Elkins 16
The Senators closed the meet against St. Vincent, suffering a 41-16 loss. Shaffer recorded his second pin of the day at 133 pounds, defeating Owen Caracciolo in 2:33. Galassi continued to shine at 174 pounds, earning a 16-4 major decision over Nathan Barkley. Eddy provided another highlight for the Senators with a lightning-fast pin in just 19 seconds at 197 pounds.
