WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins College wrestling team battled through a competitive field at the 2025 Mountain East Conference Wrestling Championships on Saturday at West Liberty University, with three wrestlers finishing in the top four of their respective weight classes.
Top Performers
Bradden Galassi (174 lbs.) led the Senators with a fourth-place finish, scoring 12.0 team points. Galassi opened the day with a dominant 18-2 technical fall over Fairmont State's Makiya Powell before falling to Glenville State's Hayden Pummel in the semifinals. He rebounded in the consolation bracket with a pin in 4:26 over Wheeling's Hunter Bittinger before falling in the third-place match by technical fall to Frostburg State's Owen Butler.
Garrett Eddy (197 lbs.) also finished fourth, contributing 9.5 team points. After an early setback in the quarterfinals, Eddy responded with a 20-2 technical fall over Salem's Iran Love and followed it up with a 4-0 decision over Fairmont State's Ethan Babay. His run ended in the third-place match due to a medical forfeit.
Wyatt Stemberger (125 lbs.), Luke Shaffer (133 lbs.), and Richard Davis (141 lbs.) all secured fifth-place finishes, each scoring 8.5 team points. Stemberger earned a 10-5 decision over Fairmont State's Caden Delwarte and later won his placement match via medical forfeit. Shaffer recorded a pin in 4:31 over Salem's David Makupson in his fifth-place match, while Davis also advanced via medical forfeit.
Additional Results
At 157 lbs., Gabriel Pujadas fell in both of his matches, while Gavin Rodriguez-Cayro (184 lbs.) suffered two defeats by fall.
The Senators showcased resilience throughout the day, picking up key victories in the consolation rounds. The Senators will now prepare for a conference dual at Wheeling University on Friday, February 7.
