ELKINS, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins College wrestling team took the mat at the McDonnell Center for a thrilling Senior Day showdown against Frostburg State in front of a raucous Code Red crowd on Saturday. The energy was electric as the Senators honored their seniors in a pre-match ceremony before battling the Bobcats in a tightly contested dual.
Despite the support of the home crowd, D&E fell short in the final team score as Frostburg State secured key victories throughout the match. However, the Senators put on a strong performance, highlighted by three falls and an overtime victory.
Nick Ammirati (133) and Richard Davis (141) provided back-to-back pins to ignite the crowd, with Ammirati securing his fall at 5:51 and Davis following up with a win at 4:19. Later in the match, Bradden Galassi (174) continued the momentum for D&E with a dominant pin at 2:37.
At 197 pounds, Garrett Eddy delivered a thrilling overtime win, defeating Frostburg State's Nick McCarthy by a 7-2 sudden victory decision and an emphatic body slam that sent the home crowd into a frenzy.
The Bobcats capitalized on forfeits at 125, 157, and 165 pounds while also earning bonus-point wins in several bouts to claim the team victory.
D&E's Senior Day provided a special moment for the program, as the pre-match ceremony honored the contributions and dedication of the Senators' upperclassmen. The McDonnell Center crowd played its part in making the Code Red atmosphere one to remember, giving the home team a boost throughout the contest.
