ELKINS, W.Va. — The Davis & Elkins College men's and women's swim teams both picked up wins over Wheeling University on Saturday in dual meet action at the George A. Myles Pool. The Senators totaled 144 points on the women's side and 167 on the men's side to complete the sweep.
The D&E men's team turned in a dominant performance with several standout swims. The 200 medley relay team of
Jan Spehar,
Charlie Whitsed,
Tommaso Tofani and
Lasse Schrieken opened the meet with a win at 1:38.58.
Freshman Leonardo Vallerini led the way with three first-place finishes in the 200 freestyle (1:45.84), 100 freestyle (48.64) and 500 freestyle (5:06.52). Whitsed added a victory in the 100 breaststroke (57.87), while freshman
Leonardo Oshiro took the 200 breaststroke (2:09.23).
Spehar won both the 100 backstroke (53.54) and 50 freestyle (22.03).
Payton Williamson picked up wins in the 100 butterfly, 200 butterfly (2:03.72), and 200 backstroke (1:58.94), and Schrieken added a win in the 200 individual medley (2:01.18). The Senators closed the meet with a win in the 400 freestyle relay as Williamson,
Gustavo Queiroz, Vallerini and Oshiro touched first in 3:23.10.
On the women's side, D&E collected six event wins.
Savannah Foley paced the Senators with victories in the 200 freestyle (2:05.10) and 50 freestyle (26.01).
Julianne Hobson added two wins of her own in the 100 freestyle (56.96) and 100 butterfly (1:03.83).
Lauren Lockwood won the 200 butterfly (2:22.77), and freshman
Anikka Peterson placed first in the 200 individual medley (2:24.41). The 400 freestyle relay team of
Daphne McCann, Lockwood, Hobson and Foley finished off the day with a first-place time of 3:48.05.
The Senators return to action November 22–23 at the Ohio Wesleyan Invitational in Delaware, Ohio.
