DELAWARE, Ohio – The Davis & Elkins College swimming teams delivered standout performances in day one at the 14th Corbiere/Merion Invitational, held November 23-24. The women's team is currently in first place with 622.5 points, while the men's team ranks third with 392 points in a highly competitive meet.
Several athletes led the way for the Senators with podium finishes, including two new school records.
Women's Highlights
- Becca Rodrigues dominated the 200-yard individual medley, winning with a time of 2:20.19 and added a fourth-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:14.72).
- Daphne McCann tied for first in the 100-yard freestyle (55.71) and won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.90. She also swam the lead leg for the second-place women's 200-yard medley relay (1:56.19).
- Julianne Hobson set a new school record in the 200-yard butterfly (2:16.94) and added first-place finishes in the 100-yard butterfly (59.61) and third in the 200-yard freestyle (2:09.87). She contributed to a second-place finish in the 800-yard freestyle relay (8:39.16).
- Lauren Lockwood claimed second place in the 200-yard butterfly (2:18.17), the 200-yard backstroke (2:18.18), and the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.73). She was part of the second-place 200-yard medley relay team.
- Maria Lugo won the 200-yard breaststroke, clocking in at 2:36.05, while Julia Vieira and Becca Rodrigues placed third (2:41.89) and sixth (2:46.14), respectively. Lugo also placed third in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:12.06).
- The women's 400-yard freestyle relay team of McCann, Lockwood, Rodrigues, and Savannah Foley secured second place with a time of 3:48.82.
- The women's 800-yard freestyle relay team of Emily Durst, Lauren Lockwood, Julianne Hobson, and Savannah Foley took second with a time of 8:39.16. The "B" relay team, featuring Emma Andrews, Alyson Schaefer, Maximilla Sutherland, and Julia Vieira, placed third in 9:17.82.
- Additional top finishes included:
- Alyson Schaefer (8th, 200-yard individual medley, 2:37.62).
- Savannah Foley (5th, 100-yard freestyle, 56.70).
- Lauren Lockwood (3rd, 200-yard freestyle relay, 1:42.55).
- Emma Andrews (8th, 200-yard backstroke, 2:28.95, 8th, 500-yard freestyle 6:09.63).
Men's Highlights
- Payton Williamson set a new school record in the 200-yard butterfly, finishing first in 1:55.44. He also took third in the 100-yard butterfly (53.27) and anchored the first-place men's 200-yard medley relay (1:36.81).
- Elie Content added a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly event (2:19.60).
- Edwin Li won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:08.78, with Jose Robles placing fifth in 2:17.17. Li also dominated the 100-yard breaststroke (55.81), and he anchored the third-place men's 400-yard freestyle relay (3:27.21).
- Ricardo Salas placed third in the 200-yard backstroke (2:12.34) and fourth in the 100-yard backstroke (59.86). He swam the third leg in the 200-yard medley relay and 400-yard freestyle relay.
- The men's 200-yard medley relay team of Williamson, Li, Elie Content, and Jose Robles captured first with a time of 1:36.81.
- The men's 800-yard freestyle relay team of Payton Williamson, Ricardo Salas, Spencer Willey, and Elie Content finished third with a time of 7:40.64.
