MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins College men's and women's swimming teams competed in the WV State Games meet, hosted by West Virginia University at the Aquatic Center at Mylan Park, October 4-5. The Senators delivered multiple top-16 finishes across two days of competition against strong in-state opponents.
In the women's 200 medley relay, the team of Daphne McCann, Maria Lugo, Julianne Hobson, and Savannah Foley secured 9th place with a time of 1:57.76, while the team featuring Emma Andrews, Julia Vieira, Lauren Lockwood, and Jolie McGaughan, took 14th with a time of 2:06.18.
For the men, the A team of Payton Williamson, Edwin Li, Elie Content, and Jose Robles posted a 6th-place finish in the 200 medley relay, clocking in at 1:38.57. The B team—Ricardo Salas, Xavier Brown, Josiah Corley, and Spencer Willey—finished 14th with a time of 1:54.45.
In individual events, Edwin Li stood out with a 6th-place finish in the men's 100 breaststroke at :58.54 and an 8th-place finish in the 50 freestyle at :22.19. Payton Williamson also had a solid performance, placing 8th in the men's 200 butterfly with a time of 2:02.36. Ricardo Salas rounded out the men's highlights on Friday, finishing 16th in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 12:32.52.
The women's 400 freestyle relay A team (Foley, Hobson, McCann, and Lockwood) secured 10th place with a time of 3:55.71, while the B team (Courtney Luikart, Alyson Schaefer, Max Sutherland, and Becca Thacker) placed 14th at 4:28.92. For the men, the A team (Li, Robles, Willey, and Williamson) finished 10th at 3:30.84, and the B team (Content, Salas, Corley, and Brown) placed 12th at 3:55.46.
Saturday saw more strong results, with the men's 400 medley relay A team (Williamson, Li, Content, and Robles) earning 7th place with a time of 3:45.48. Li continued his impressive weekend with a 5th-place finish in the 200 breaststroke at 2:14.85.
On the women's side, the 200 freestyle relay A team (Rodrigues, McCann, Foley, and Hobson) placed 9th with a time of 1:46.38. Meanwhile, the men's 200 freestyle relay A team (Li, Robles, Williamson, and Content) claimed 7th place, finishing in 1:30.22.
Other top performances included Williamson's 12th-place finish in the men's 100 butterfly at :53.55 and Content's 16th-place finish in the men's 100 freestyle at 49.77.
