CANTON, Ohio – Davis & Elkins returned to the pool Saturday at the Malone Duals in Canton, Ohio. The women competed with both Hillsdale College and the host Malone University. The D&E men competed with Malone.
In the women's competition, D&E won big over Malone 167-76. The Senators dropped their meet against Hillsdale, last year's GMAC/MEC runners-up, 195-66.
Shelbey Fuller won two events to lead Davis & Elkins. She won the 100 butterfly by nearly three seconds with at time of 1:01.98. Fuller also picked up a win in the 50 butterfly with a time of 27.78. She also had a third-place finish in the 100 freestyle with a time of 58.54.
Fuller teamed with
Savannah Foley,
Maria Lugo, and
Becca Rodrigues for a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:57.80).
Bry Gollmer added a third-place finish in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:06.61.
Rodrigues and Lugo finished second and third in the 100 breaststroke with times of 1:14.28 and 1:15.01, respectively.
Lugo added a third-place finish in the 50 breaststroke in a time of 34.66.
On the men's side, the Senators won both relays and eleven of twelve individual events contested en route to a 187-66 victory.
Geoff Dixon,
Edwin Li,
Enrique Garcia, and
Jose Robles got the scoring started with a win in the 200 medley relay.
Jakob Knoblauch won the 200 freestyle in 1:49.02, the 500 freestyle in 5:03.96, and the 200 individual medley in 2:02.88.
Payton Williamson (25.81) and Dixon (26.25) had a 1-2 finish in the 50 backstroke.
Li was a three event winner, winning the 50 (25.71) and 100 breaststroke (59.17), and the 50 freestyle (22.68).
Robles was part of a 1-2 finish with Li in the 50 breaststroke with at time of 28.82, while Nick Allen was part of a 1-2 finish with Li in the 50 freestyle when he finished in a time of 22.94.
Li, Garcia, and Robles went 1-2-3 in the 100 breaststroke. Garcia went 1:00.28, while Robles went 1:07.96.
Garcia won the 100 butterfly in 53.94 and was second in the 200 individual medley in 2:04.25.
Robles picked up a win in the 100 freestyle in a time of 50.56.
Williamson and Dixon went 1-2 once again in the 100 backstroke with times of 55.65 and 56.99, respectively.
Dixon and Williamson went 1-2 in the 50 butterfly with times of 24.42 and 25.07, respectively.
In the meet finale, the 200 freestyle relay team of Allen, Williamson,
Spencer Willey, and Knoblauch finish in 1:32.08 to win the event by one hundredth of a second.
