ELKINS, W.Va. – Coach
Jerry Boland's Davis & Elkins College wrestling team finished first among NCAA Division II wrestling programs in community service hours as registered with the Helper Helper community engagement tracking app. The Senators accumulated 240 hours of service
Coach Nikki Rose and her swimming programs also finished near the top of the list in hours registered. Rose's women's team finish second among NCAA Division II women's swimming and diving teams. D&E racked up 389 hours and 30 minutes of service, averaging out to 23 hours per swimmer.
The men's swimming team accumulated a Davis & Elkins high 407 hours and 16 minutes, which was good enough to finish second for NCAA Division II men's swimming and diving teams. The men's team averaged 21 hours per swimmer.
Senator student-athletes from these teams and other D&E programs volunteered by working with area youth, cleaning up campus and the community, and by lending a hand at local non-profit agencies.
"It is great to see our student-athletes offer up their time and talents in a variety of ways," said Director of Athletics
Patrick Snively. "When there are demands placed on your time to perform in the classroom and in your field of competition, it seems there is little time to offer up to others. These teams and others show that you can have a well-rounded student-athlete experience and still have time to do good for others."
As a whole, NCAA Division II student-athletes volunteered over 34,000 hours and had an economic impact of $988,226 according to Helper Helper.
