Cuevas Repeats as Mountain East Conference Defensive Player of the Year

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The Mountain East Conference today announced its 2022 Women's Lacrosse major award winners and all-conference teams, following a vote of the league's head coaches. Frostburg State attacker Stephanie King headlined the 2022 honorees as the MEC Offensive Player of the Year, while Davis & Elkins goalkeeper Marissa Cuevas was voted the Defensive Player of the Year for the second-consecutive season.
 
In addition, Charleston's Sophia Conzone was recognized as the league's Freshman of the Year and also earned a spot on the All-MEC first team and MEC All-Freshman Team.
 
Frostburg State head coach Taylor Sindall was voted the league's Coach of the Year after leading the Bobcats to a 9-6 overall record in 2022, including a 7-1 mark in league play. Frostburg finished the regular season on an eight-game winning streak and earned a share of the MEC Regular Season Championship in 2022.
 
King, a senior attacker from Edgewater, Md., scored a team-high 40 goals and passed out 12 assists to lead Frostburg State on offense this season. King had an .826 shots on goal percentage this season and ranked in the top five in the MEC in both goals (40) and points (52).
 
Cuevas, a sophomore goalkeeper from Farmingville, N.Y., led the MEC in both saves percentage (.515) and saves per game (17.07) during the 2022 season. In fact, she averaged seven more saves than any other player in the MEC this season. Cuevas, the 2021 MEC Defensive Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year, was also voted to the All-MEC first team for the second-consecutive season for her efforts in net this season.
 
Conzone, a freshman attacker from East Syracuse, N.Y., led Charleston in both goals and assists during her debut season in 2022. She finished the year tied for the league-league with 48 goals and had seven assists in 2022. She currently ranks third in the MEC in points per game.
