CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Davis & Elkins College women's lacrosse fell to Mountain East Conference opponent Charleston on the road Saturday, 14-5, at Welch Athletic Complex.
The Senators (7-10, 2-5 MEC) trailed 7-1 at halftime but showed offensive life in the second half, scoring four goals over the final two quarters. Avelyn Anderson opened the scoring for D&E in the first quarter off an assist from Emelia Johnson. The Senators struck twice in the third, including a goal from Josepine Whorton and a power-play tally by Kelsey Corcoran. Johnson notched her second assist of the day on a fourth-quarter goal by Malia Galan, while Ke'ya Stevens added an unassisted strike minutes later.
Despite the offensive push, D&E was outshot 44-12 and committed 23 turnovers. Goalkeeper Megan Bauer made 18 saves in a full 60-minute effort.
Johnson finished with two assists, while Morgan Rogers also contributed a helper. Defensively, Izzie Sevila led the team with four ground balls and two caused turnovers. The Senators went 16-of-19 on clear attempts but struggled to generate draw control opportunities, winning just six of 22.
Charleston (11-5, 5-2 MEC) was paced by Madison Partridge and Willow Cooper, who each scored five goals. The Golden Eagles pulled away in the fourth quarter with six goals to secure the win.
Davis & Elkins returns to action for its final game of the regular season on Wednesday, April 23 at Nuttall Field.
