ELKINS, W.Va. – Davis & Elkins athletics announced the appointment of head women's lacrosse coach David
Pomeroy on Tuesday.
Bringing no shortage of playing and coaching experience with him to Elkins,
Pomeroy most recently served as the inaugural head coach at NCAA DIII Marian University in Wisconsin since 2017.
"D&E is very pleased to welcome David
Pomeroy to Senator Nation," D&E President Chris Wood said. "He brings years of collegiate coaching experience to our Women's Lacrosse program and is equally as committed to graduating women of strong character as he is developing high caliber student-athletes competing for a conference championship."
Pomeroy also worked with Black Lax high school club team since 2017 in Wisconsin in addition to his duties at Marian. A Baltimore, Maryland native and standout high school lacrosse player,
Pomeroy spent much of his coaching tenure on the east coast.
"The ability to not only return to the NCAA Division II lacrosse world, but to only be about four hours away from home, is the best blessing I could have asked for me, my wife and my two children,"
Pomeroy said. "I am beyond excited to continue the success of this program and to raise the bar for that first conference championship. I want to thank the administration here at Davis & Elkins for their trust and support in allowing me to lead this program, as I look forward to many great years here."
Working for three seasons as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Indiana University of Pennsylvania,
Pomeroy assisted with the Crimson Hawks' goalkeepers from 2013-2016. While in Indiana,
Pomeroy helped IUP finish in the national rankings all three seasons while coaching six All-Americans.
Pomeroy worked throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania with Intrepid Girls Lacrosse Club (2014-2016), as assistant coach at Indiana High School (2015-16), assistant coach at Kutztown University (2012) and head coach at Freedom High School (2011-12).
Pomeroy served as an assistant and head coach at various high schools, including Laramie, Wyoming (2007-08), and in Maryland at Dundalk (2009) and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel (2009-10). He takes over the women's lacrosse program for the departed Tommy Kelly, who served as head coach for the past four seasons.
Pomeroy graduated from Rowan University with a bachelor's degree in psychology in 2012 before receiving his master's in sports management from IUP in 2016.
Davis & Elkins went 5-6 in 2021, advancing to the MEC Semifinals.
