Swimming Rolls to Season-Opening Senior Day Sweep of Frostburg State

ELKINS, W.Va. – Celebrating its Senior Day in a much-anticipated season debut, Davis & Elkins swimming took care of business, sweeping Frostburg State in dual action on Saturday afternoon inside the Myles Pool. The men's team was victorious, 171-87, while the women's team posted a 158-100 triumph.
 
Combining for 21 wins over 28 events, the Senators showcased their depth in a variety of events. Prior to the meet, the Senators recognized seniors McKinzie Thomas, Lucas Sosa and Kamren McKinney-Lyons.
 
In the first competition for Davis & Elkins since last February, the Senators wasted little time picking up event wins as both the women's and men's team nabbed victories in the 200-yard medley relay to start the day.
 
Individual winners on the men's side included Jiwh Santos in the 100 free (50.11) and 200 free (1:53.46); Geoff Dixon in the 100 back (56.34); Enrique Garcia in the 100 breast (1:00.82) and 200 breast (2:21.08); Garett Vondrasek in the 100 fly (55.87) and 200 fly (2:16.68); along with Carl Eisen in the 50 fly (23.47).
 
The 200-medley relay of Dixon, Eisen, Garett Vondrasek and Santos swam a 1:40.97. Additionally, the 200-free relay team of Garcia, Nick Allen, Eisen and McKinney-Lyons earned first in 1:30.22.
 
For the women, individual winners consisted of Becca Rodrigues in the 100 free (1:00.23) and 200 free (2:10.64); Casey Hayford in the 100 back (1:06.09) and 200 back (2:26.94); Barbara Bernal in the 200 fly (2:39.39) and 500 free (5:55.77); Megan Schueller in the 50 free (25.84); Shelbey Fuller in the 200 breast (2:46.52) and Dru Mills in the 200 IM (2:32.17).
 
The 200-medley relay group of Hayford, Fuller, Bernal and Schueller opened the event with a 1:59.51, narrowly beating the Frostburg State time of 2:00.35.
 
Garett Vondrasek, Becca Rodrigues, Schueller, Fuller and Garcia all recorded their first collegiate victories in their D&E debut. The Senators added 12 second-place finishes in the dual.
 
Davis & Elkins returns to the pool next week, taking on West Virginia Wesleyan in road action on Saturday, February 6 at 1:00 PM.
