ELKINS, W.Va. – After nearly a calendar-year hiatus, Davis & Elkins men's and women's swimming begins the 2021 season on Saturday, January 30 in dual action against Frostburg State at Myles Pool. The season opener will also double as Senior Day for the Senators, who take on the Bobcats at 1:00 PM.

While no spectators are permitted, the event will be live streamed on the Mountain East Conference Digital Network (link below). Seniors McKinzie Thomas, Lucas Sosa and Kamren McKinney-Lyons will be recognized prior to the meet in the Senators' first competition since last February.

DAVIS & ELKINS NOTES
  • Jiwh Santos and Geoff Dixon picked up All-MEC accolades last time out for the Senators on the final day of the GMAC/MEC Championships. Along with returning sophomores Ryan Clement and Vignesh Muley, D&E welcomes back several student-athletes that have earned accolades from the conference in the past.
  • The quartet of Santos, Dixon, Muley and Clement nabbed All-MEC Third Team honors in the men's 800 relay last season and look to be anchors for the D&E men's lineup during the 2021 slate in various events.
  • Barbara Bernal returns for her junior campaign on the women's team, earning Third Team All-MEC honors in the 100 fly last season. An academic all-conference selection, Bernal looks to replicate a stellar 2020 season, which saw wins in the 50 fly, 100 fly and 200 fly throughout dual competition.
  • The women's team welcomes six freshmen for 2021, while the men's side boasts nine first-year swimmers. Juniors Kaila Howell, Dru Mills and Victoria Thacker all return with experience for D&E from last season.
  • Saturday will be the first chance that D&E gets to put its training to the test for seventh-year head coach Nicole Rose. The Senators worked sporadically in the fall semester and, like most teams in the league, have had just a few short weeks to prepare for the truncated 2021 season.

UP NEXT
Davis & Elkins continues the swimming season on Saturday, February 6, against West Virginia Wesleyan at 1:00 PM. That meet marks the second of three dual meets set for January and February for the Senators.
