BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- The Davis & Elkins Senators received two first-place votes to finish in a tie for second place in the Mountain East Conference Women's Lacrosse Preseason Poll, the conference announced Thursday.
Fellow newcomer Frostburg State is the narrow favorite to win the 2020 Mountain East Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship, receiving two first place votes to finish with 13 points.
D&E was part of a three-way tie for second with 11 points each, along with Charleston, who also received a first place vote, and Notre Dame. West Virginia Wesleyan rounded out the poll in fifth.
The Senators are coming off a record-breaking 11 win season in 2019, and return 1st Team All-GMAC selection
Angelina Horan, who led the GMAC with a program-record 71 goals in 2019. Sophomore
Ryann Sumner was second on the team in scoring, en route to a 2nd Team All-GMAC nod, and the Senators return two former All-Conference selections from injury in senior
Gabby Fagan and junior
Samantha Cozzolino.
D&E will open up MEC play on March 22nd, hosting Frostburg State at 1:00 P.M.
