The Davis & Elkins College Women's Tennis team picked up their second straight GMAC win in a 6-1 victory over Kentucky Wesleyan , and competed well in a 5-2 loss to Southern Indiana over the weekend.
Against the Panthers, the Senators swept doubles by identical 6-3 scores.
Taylour Newman won 6-1, 6-2 at #1 singles.
Laura Vargas was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at #2 singles.
Ester Bolmenas won with identical 6-1 set wins at #3 singles.
Valentine Schwartz (#4 singles) and
Karin Rosario (#5 singles) won with identical 6-0, 6-1 scores.
Against Southern Indiana, the Screaming Eagles swept doubles and picked up quick wins in singles to clinch the match at 4-0.
However, the Senators weren't done, as
Valentine Schwartz was a 6-2, 7-6 (4) winner at #4 singles to score the first point for D&E.
After falling behind 6-0 in the first set,
Laura Vargas roared back to a 6-3 win in the second set, and held off a late charge from her opponent in the supertiebreaker, for an 0-6, 6-3, 10-8 win at #2 singles.
Ester Bolmenas came up just short in her #3 singles match, playing very strong tennis en route to a tight 6-4, 6-4 decision.
The Women's Tennis team will host West Liberty tomorrow for their Code Red match. Start time is set for 3:30 PM at the Thomas Tennis Center.
