ELKINS -
Ester Bolmenas and
Taylour Newman's 6-2 win at #1 doubles highlight a 7-0 loss to visiting Salem University on Tuesday at the Thomas Tennis Center.
Salem is currently ranked #6 in the Atlantic region by the ITA, and proved to be a difficult match-up for the Senators.
The Senators fell behind early, as they had to forfeit #6 singles and #3 doubles due to an injury in the lineup. A 6-1 Tigers win at #2 doubles secured the doubles point and a 2-0 lead.
However, the #1 doubles team of Bolmenas and Newman were able to swing the momentum their way, en route to their second win of the season at #1 doubles.
In singles play,
Ester Bolmenas carried over her strong performance at #3 singles, rallying from 5-2 down in the first set to win 7-5. Her Salem opponent raised her level in the second set, to force a third set tiebreaker with a 6-2 win.
During the tiebreaker, Glowinska of Salem was able to take control of the match, winning by a score of 5-7, 6-2, 10-3.
At #4 singles,
Valentine Schwartz turned around from a tough first set to fall 6-0, 7-5 in a competitive match.
The Senators will return to court on Saturday when they travel to Ashland University. The match will be played indoors at Lakewood Racquet Club in Lexington, Ohio.
